About Me

Welcome to my culinary chronicles!

My name is Giovanni Farinella, a Sicilian-born installed in Luxembourg, with a passion for raw red prawns and the smell of simmering onions.

I love food and I write reviews about it.

I love everything about food: from the most basic ingredients to the most audacious combinations, from the perfumes it releases to to the stains it leaves on the apron.

And I write reviews to homage the hard work of its craftsmen and the multitude of women and men who wake up every day to open their kitchens and offer their smiles to random strangers who walk the door of their restaurants.

The adventure of Hungry Italian in Town started at the end of 2015 with an Instagram page where I shared my experience with many friends who were asking for restaurant recommendations.

The blog followed a few months later to give readers a larger scope of what is worth trying out in different cities, as well as sharing some of the intimate impressions I get on the spot.

In 2016, I had the opportunity to collaborate as a regional expert with Daniel Young, food writer for The New York Times, The Los Angeles Times and The Guardian, to its guide on the best pizza places in the world, 'Where to eat pizza', published by Phaidon.

In 2018, I started a collaboration with Identità Golose, Italian magazine of international cuisine and world-known restaurant guide. In the same year, I started writing for some local magazine, Explorator (now Foodzilla), Kachen and Reesen.

In 2019, I founded a consulting boutique, providing support to F&B companies on marketing and strategy.

2020 is the year of The Grapeist, our wine distribution company specialized in Natural Wines and operating across Luxembourg and Italy.

All what you are about to read contains only unbiased opinions, driven solely by my personal experience, senses and study.
